I grew up in a Christian home in southern Manitoba. I accepted Christ at a young age. As I grew older I fell into addictions and away from God. By His grace and with the help of friends and mentors, I was able to break free. Still I felt dirty and undesirable to God, but He has shown me that my past does not keep me from doing his work. I felt God call me to work with youth but I pushed back. I kept on hearing the words of the apostle James, “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” Finally I realized that He used my addictions to train me for his work, to be able to stand beside someone and honestly say “I know what you feel”, to be able to reassure them that God has a plan and it is good.
2 Timothy 2:21 – Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
I grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ at a young age. I don’t remember exactly when, but I do remember it happening in Sunday school. Since then, I have had my ups and downs, but as I grow older I see more and more how Christ can work and move through you, no matter your present circumstance. If you open your heart to him and are willing to listen, to wait patiently and make time for others, you can make a huge difference in people around you. Coming alongside people and showing them the way to His grace and freedom from sin; watching him transform their lives as a result of my obedience to him, that makes living worth the while!
A verse I really like is James2:14-17: What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, “Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled”; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
